Biography
Sultan al-Atrash (1891-1982) was a Druze leader who led the Great Syrian Revolt against French colonial rule from 1925 to 1927. Born in al-Qrayya, he became a symbol of Syrian resistance to French colonialism. The revolt, though ultimately suppressed, is considered a precursor to Syrian independence.
